Lake City chooses to “Go with the Flow”

Known as the “Gateway to Florida,” the City of Lake City has seen a steady increase in both population and industry over the last 25 years. As such, the utility system has experienced “growing pains” in their approximate 12 square mile service area.

Approximately 4 years ago, Lake City had DFS install SCADA on (4) lift stations as part of a pilot program to evaluate alternatives to their existing SCADA system, which had become problematic and unreliable. Having liked what DFS had to offer, they expanded the pilot program to include DFS SCADA for a newly constructed 4 MGD reuse water system.

Based on its success, DFS was recently awarded a contract to upgrade and expand the DFS SCADA system to include all of the utility’s 60 lift stations. With the phase-out of the old Butler National/Motorola SCADA system, and implementation DFS SCADA system-wide, utility management is looking forward to developing more efficient staffing, enhanced monitor/control functionality, better IT security and more relevant reporting.

Once the complete DFS SCADA system is up and running, utility management intends to use collected data to facilitate a detailed capacity analysis to help guide future development.
