CHOCCOLOCCO CREEK WWTP – BIOSOLIDS UPGRADE
Engineer: Krebs Engineering, Inc.
As part of a technology refit at the Choccolocco Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, DFS implemented a new fiber-optic network infrastructure and designed and delivered eight new PLC RTUs – some in new locations and some replacing panels from a defunct in-plant low-power 900MHz SCADA system. The new network provides physically secure high-speed communications with its own integral power backup system and immunity to weather or third-party interference that can be found in license-free radio bands. In addition to the DFS RTUs, the plant’s new hot-swapping redundant Hyper SCADA Server with HT4 SCADA Software uses DFS supplied and programmed protocol converters, allowing communication with 5 additional PLCs installed by proprietary wastewater solution providers. Anniston Water Works and Sewer Board can now access the Choccolocco Creek Hyper SCADA Server from workstations at the plant, via mobile devices using secure VPN, and at their main operations center, where they can also monitor and control the HyperTAC SCADA servers for their collections system, the Fort McClellan WWTP and the Knowlton WTP.
